Unhappy HELP locked gear shift!

I spilled a whole bottle of coke on mt gear shift console and it seeped into everything. I cleaned it up when I got home and even sparayed a little windex and let it seep into where coke went. I can unlock it by using the override and a screwdriver. It does not lock everytime just when I have been parked in my driveway which is a hill. Any ideas on how to correct this myself.
Any advice will be appreciated. I would like to fix this beofre my husband drives the car.
Thanks in advance,
Debbie

you broke it and wanna try and hide it from hubby

The Coke prolly just evaporated leaving behind all that sugar and gumming things up. You might have to pop off the trim pieces surrounding the shifter and clean it thoroughly

first make sure the car is on and your foot is on the brake. then just get mean with it. Coke is not stronger than you are.
