oil in air resonator?

I was just taking apart the stock air intake system to evaluate if my air filter needed to be replaced and oil started dripping out of the air intake hose. So I took it off and looked at the resonator and it had a puddle of oil in it. I can't for the life of me figure out how oil could have gotten into a closed air intake system.

But anyway, I was wondering if it's possible to clean it, or if do I need to replace it? Dealer is quoting $100 for a new one (looks like fancy plastic to me), and I can't find an aftermarket replacement at any of the major auto stores.

This ever happen to anyone else?

Take it off and clean off the oil as best you can with paper towels. Then wash it in warm water and a mild detergent. Or just clean it on the car with something mild that dissolves oil.

Might check the PCV system.

PCV / cranckcase breather is sucking up alot of oil. May want to give those a check.

Would someone overfilling the oil cause that, or would it be a defective PCV valve? I think I might have overfilled on it the last oil change slightly by maybe 1/4 quart.

I did clean it and rinse it out with warm water as suggested. Guess I may need to check it again in a week or so.

Not really. "Overfilling" would be putting 2 gallons of oil in it.

I agree with Toysrme. Overfilling by 1/4 of a quart won't do something like this. Check or replace the PCV valve.
