Camry axle nut, rolled threads

Hi All,
So last night I was putting a new axle in my 92 camry. I was using a hammer and 2x4 to smack it into the trany with no luck. Trying to hold it stright, hold the 2x4 and swing the freakin' hammer all at the same time was next to impossible. So I dropped the 2x4 held the axle stright and gave it one good smack and it went right in. BUT, in doing so, I rolled the threads on the axle and can't get the nut on. I tried to chase the threds back with a thred file with no luck. I'm like 10 minutes away for being done with it, and spent the past 3 hours trying to strighten out the threads. Any ideas? I thought of using a dye set but I can't find one that big.
Help me out guys. Or girls if you are one.
Thanks in advance.
Leary

You might be able to use a hacksaw and a small jewelers file to cut some crude threads. Or grind or file away the damaged threads. There should be more thread available then needed to hold the nut on. A tool supply house should be able to get the proper die.

Ditto: File/grind off the unused threads and don't worry about. Look at the other side - has it plenty of threads showing?

If so, use a grinder and cut them off. Get a another new nut if the old and new are damaged.
