exhaust, intake

hi all,

1. i'm thinking of getting a custom exhaust for my car. What size muffler would fit into my 97 Camry Le, 4 cyl? The reason why i'm getting custom is because I can't find any exhaust systems for my car. I'm thinking of getting HKS universal stainless steel muffler. They have two different piping diameter sizes 60 (2.36 inches) with 3.8 inches in the tip and 75 mm (2.95 inches) with 4.7 inches in the tip. Which one do you think would fit? Are there any exhaust shops in Buffalo, NY where they do mandrel bent pipes? I went to Meineke and they dont mandrel bend them.

2. I'm thinking of getting AEM cold air intake for my car. As you all know, buffalo is known for having lots of snow. Do you think getting a bypass value is a must in buffalo?

1. I think that the muffler should be the least of your concerns. If you are getting an exhaust, the pipe leading to the muffler is more important. If you are a 4cyl go with 2.25" or as close to that as you can. If your ONLY choices are 2.36" or 2.95" go with 2.36" for sure. That will give you the best power gains.

2. There are a lot of people who have CAIs that do not run a bypass valve. I dont' think you'll need one but I think Buffalo is worse than Toronto for winters so it might not hurt to get one. Remember that with a CAI you will lose low end torque and a 97 4cyl does not have much to begin with so I'm not sure if you want that. But it all depends on your driving style and where you want power. A nice cone intake with a custom mandrel bent midpipe (and a heat shield between the cone and engine) might be worth researching into.

Good luck.

I called Greddy and they said they stopped making the Power extreme and the evolution exhaust only fits 99 and up camrys. People say that they've seen others with it but I"m not sure if they did something else to it to make it fit. Do you think it will fit my 97 without any other work in volved?

LIAH. sorry i lost your email address

Hey Liah

the black widow kit is tight and you cant go wrong with that, I was going to get the black front and rear but found the JT style, remember that the BW rear is a dual option bumper for exhaust. so if you have a single muffler it may look empty if you know what I mean. the kit will run about $450 or so. Then I would install it yourself if you know how, will save you some money well that is if it fits right. The painting of the kit would cost somewhere around $300 but if you get the whole car painted that would be better and look better as well.

AEM doesn't make the CAI intake for the Camry yet. last I heard it was in the making and be out in April but nothing yet. I am making my own proly. Cheaper.

TRD only makes the rear sway bar they don't make a front. Its listed as a sway bar for 99 Solara but will fit your car, and from what I know you shouldn't need brackets unless your are stuck or bent and what not. But if you do let me know.ok

Damn if you can do an engine swap that would be dope. allot of work, $$ and headache though, but good luck.

Good luck with the whole job and future work.

Like I said before its too late anyways, but for future referance here is a good link to the Greddy Set up.

I don't have much for exhaust, I cant afford to buy the Cat-Back nor the header. I need to start saving to buy my girlfriend an Engagement Ring. Ouch!!

See Ya.

Re: LIAH. sorry i lost your email address

sean,

do you know approximately how much it will cost to install the body kit? As for the paints, if i were to just paint those parts the colors wouldnt match. I got a quote from this please, Earl something, and it costs around 600 to paint the whole car. My friend got his done there 2 years ago and he said the paint is still in condition. The prob with that place and the reason why its so cheap is because they don;t remove the parts to repaint and they dont use primer. They use their own "special" paint. It has 3 year warranty. Other places might run up to maybe 3k.

As far as getting the kit installed, depending on where you go. For a complete Install and the Kit being painted my sponsor said $700. So maybe $300 to paint and and around $300 to install.

Now that is saying they have few if any problems fitting the kit. and it could be more if they have to make it fit. If you buy a quality kit you can install yourself and learn allot in the process. but never go cheap it only hurts you in the long run.

I personally wouldnt go through with the $600. You need primer, if you get a chip you will have mad cracks and splits and the paint will actually lift off in pieces. You get what you pay for.

3 years isnt a long time if you plan on keeping your car and in nice shiny condition. And that is what you need of you want to have a car with a kit and you want people to apprieciate what you have done to it and how well you have taken care of it too.

They need to remove some parts so they can get the egdes and bottoms of things (like door jams, under hood, trunck. ect) so its allot of money to waste on a decent when you have half enough saved for a great one. Keep me posted on your decision and show me some pics, Okay.

I called them.....I asked them to make sure they can order it before I place an order. he told me they can order it so I placed an order....I was told they'll get it in a week. I called them a week later to make sure they got the exhaust and was told that it's been discontinued. Wasted 1 week and a half for nothing. Could have notified me that it has been discontinued instead of lying and saying it;s in the warehouse and it'll be shipped out in 2 days.

anyways.....there are no exhausts for camry's , we have to go custom. Thanks for your help tho :-)

if i have the 98 and i get the 99+ evo exhaust and take it to a muffler shop would they be able to custom fit it onto my car? since the years aren't that far apart it shouldn't be that hard. I have a V6 so it should be even better.

dunno, just a thought.
