OBDII Scanner Suggestion.

Hey guys,

I searched the forums, but couldn't find an exact recommendation. I have a 2000 camry, 2.2L and my CEL is on. I'd like to get a OBDII scanner so I can do it myself. I know autozone will do it for free, but I still want to have my own device.

Can anyone recommend a good scanner for under 100 bucks? An exact model would be appreciated being that I don't know a bit, but am not proficient at all this stuff.

Thank you very much.

Cheeba,

There are some smart guys on here who may correct me, but I believe you can get any number of code readers for under $100. However, I don't think you'll find a full function scanner for that price.

FWIW.

Go here: http://www.scantool.net

Price is around what you're looking for and it offers a variety of features.

Hope that helps..

I have had a person recommend the Scantool brand to use on my Explorer.

Another guy recommended the Autoxray brand, and he said that the AutoXray EZ-Scan AX4000 is a nice starter level code reader. There is a $30 rebate through Autoxray right now, so it is $157 total after rebate via the link below. My local Checker Auto will price match it, so if I want it right away, then all I will have to pay extra is the sales tax.

I am waiting for my CEL to come back on, and then I'll look at purchasing one...

I got mine at harborfreight.com for $30. Its a basic scanner but good enough for me. Its paid for itself twice and it comes with a little booklet of what the codes mean; and all it does is show you the code.

It works like this, plug it in to the port under the dash. The code will flash 3 times; pause; code flashes 3 times again; pause; flashes 3 more times. then it clears the code automatically.
