i gots me a 1990 camry and i am destined to get the new celica gt-s engine in my car. i want that engine cuz of course it puts out 180 horses. so does anyone know of anybody or anywhere that sells those engines. i would prefer it being used cuz its cheaper but anything will do. thanks for the help
Goober, hate to spoil the fun, but keep in mind that the Celi engine is smaller than the Camry engine by a good 200 cc and on top of that unless you're going to drive the piss out of it the powerband (which starts at 6000 rpm, when the second set of cam lobes comes into play) is too high, out of reach, and largely useless for a heavier family car like the Camry. The base Celi (GT)motor isn't a rocket, but it has a good bit more midrange than the high-output GT-S motor. For the Camry, I'd think that to be a little more practical. Of course, I wouldn't mind seeing someone actually try this swap, but as Warped said it'll cost ya

Seriously, there is no point in even attempting to put that engine in your car. Go find a place that can import you a late model JDM 3sge. It will cost less and guess what, it will actually fit right in the car lol, seriously though, it bolts right up, if you have an auto they id come with auto tranny so it is not a problem. They are 2 liter engines so they have more displacement and torque and the later models actually make more hp than the 180hp 2ZZ GE. Just post if you have any more questions.

Just go talk to your local speed shop to see if they can get them for you. It will be really helpful to have a place that you can go to and will recieve the engine than dealing with people over the internet and finding ways to transport the engine or clip around. Toysport.com an get you the frontclip but they are pricey. You can also check ELPrototypes.com or just search around on the net a little for suppliers. You are going to want to get an entire front clip because it includes everything you need for the swap and will just make the job much more easy. Look for a 4th gen 3sge available in the 98-99 jdm celicas. It made 200hp. These will cost you though. You can also look for the 3rd gen 3sge to save some money, it only made like 160 or 170 hp but has just as much potential as the other engine.
Also, yes the 3sgte is an option and it is not very expensive if you get the older model. I got priced 1800 for a complete JDM 225hp front clip. It is the turbocharged version of the 3sge. It is just much harder to properly set up in the fwd 2nd gen. It still bolts right up but then you get into the problem of intercooler placement and if the tranny needs to be modified to work correctly. You can use a stock 3sfe or V6 5 speed but it will be worn out pretty quickly. Just can't handle the power.
I personally think the 3sge is a much better compliment to the fwd Camry than the 3sgte. More controlled, less stress on parts. much easier toget to work correctly. Just a better balanced automobile. 3sgte would be absolutely kick@ss in a Camry All-Trac though. Total sleeper.

Its all marketing though. They all have the same power... I know of a guy who dyno'd his stock 1zz matrix and got about 125hp. He's now running a custom turbo and about 200 whp.
