strut, sway bar

What's the different between a strut bar and a sway bar. I know that they both give you more control and stiffens the chassis. But What are the pros and cons of buying either one or both? Also would it better to buy both strut and sway both rears and fronts? I live in Buffalo, NY and i heard that driving a car with stiffen chassis is a bad thing. Which brands are good for my 97 Camry Le, 4cyl.

Hey Liah

hey you should check out the forum question i posted a few weeks ago, its down the page a bit under "Sway Bar Thickness"
it will give you some help and idea on them.

The Strut Bar (would mount to your struts inside your engine bay)is a must, it will stiffen your body and you will notice it has less body roll on turns. That is the best and cheapest route. Check out eBay they have ass loads of strut bars and they are cheap but do what they are supposed to. Reactive the most common brand of strut bar for the Camry and TRD of coarse.

Sway bars (which mount to your undercarriage suspension and steering assembly) will stiifen you ride and give you more control while turning, I would go front (whiteLine) and rear if you have the money. Trd makes a rear for a 99 Solara but it will fit your car also. I am in the process of getting both. But if you only go one route, at least get the strut bar and maybe the front sway bar.

Good Luck on the Exhaust, stick with CT Motorsport. Sean Miller (SoundLzd) is a good guy an dhe will take care of you. (Greddy Evo) (Apexi) is your only choice.

I called Sean and the Greddy's are backordered :-(
Where did you find TRD sway bars?? I dont see it in trdusa.com. How much is it?

Are there rear strut bars?? The only ones I see are for the front. I'm thinking of getting EVERYTHING :-) but my major prob is control during winter.. Someone wrote that driving in the snow with strut bars would cause you to lose control. Is this true??

I can get the rear sway bar from a friend. They are $145 or so + shipping versus the $109 +shippping from CT. They really arent much better then the White Line rear sway bars from Sean @ CT Motorsports. But the TRD one is Adjustable. (street/race) but you will have a huge rear end sliding problem if you have it on that setting (race) but to be honest you are really paying for the brand. Well thats my opinion. But I still want and am getting the TRD one but will I never use the Race setting so.

They do not make a rear strut bar for the Camry's. Its literally impossible to install one since your struts actually are behind the seats and under the rear deck lid.

As far as the strut bar causing problems in the snow, lets say it like this. I live in Utah and I am from Montana and I have never heard of that nor have I ever have had any problems.

If you are planning on getting the exhaust, strut bar and front and rear sway bar you might as well go for the 5S-FE turbo while your at it and then send me a chunk of all your money ok, hehe

Take Care Liah.

You have my email so if you have any more questions hit me up.

Sean
