Broken valve cover bolt/nut :-(

Hey,

I think I'm in trouble.

While tightening my valve cover bolts (front side), one of my bolt broke!!!

The nut is at the top right corner (if you are looking at the engine while standing in front of the car). I didn't even reach torque spec yet. I slowly turn each of the eight nuts slowly, doing each one little by little.

How do I remove the broken bolt tip? It's a little deep inside and I cannot get it with a vise-grip.

Please help!!!!! I'm desperate....

*1996 Camry LE V6*

ps. Anyone know what a machinist/dealer charge for a broken bolt removal??? I know they can probably rape me on the price since they know I'm in trouble.

just go to your local auto store and pick up a bolt removal kit

you're REALLY lucky that you snapped one on the front cover, otherwise you'd be screwed.

the best way to do it is by taking everyghing off again (cover, gasket, etc.), and then just drilling it out.

I snapped two on my front cover when I did mine and they came out no problem. If you want to be on the safe side, go pick up ALL new valve cover bolts for the reinstall. They use crush washers and after being on the car for 10yeras, they don't crush very well anymore and the bolt itself snaps

good luck
