KYB strut life

I have kyb shocks on a gen3 i4 for about 20k now. They have been used w/ stock springs and was wondering if i swap out the springs for lowering springs will my struts still be able to last? I would swap them all out at once but i dont have enough money at the time adn i really want the lowered look soon.

you should be ok to lower the car w/ kyb's- i would recommend some new tokicos however... that would make it reliably safe from blowing struts

just remember though, patience will reward you

Should be fine depending on how much you are lowering it. I lowered my car 40,000 km ago and I am still using stock struts (they are still ok after 141,000km)

it would also depend if u can get inserts or sealed... because the tokicos are inserts only so if ur car has sealed... u cant use tokicos.... but changing shocks and lowering at the same time is a good investment since u save money anyways while they take apart the suspension jsut to lower ur car... might as well do it at the same time...

no, tokico also makes a sealed non serviceable strut. i have them right now and they are schweet! thanks sean!!

tokico lists the cartridges under 92-94 camry models, and the full assemblies under 95-96 models.

also about knowing whether you have sealed or serviceable, its just something you have to check for yourself... because it varies from camry to camry. there is a way to modify the stock struts to make them accept a cartridge, but its easier to just get a full sealed replacement- and besides, now my old cruddy stock struts have been replaced by nice glistening blue ones

you can save a pretty penny by going with cartridges, but there is no guarantee that you have a serviceable strut until you check.

tokicos or KYB, how long can they last if they are used with stock spring??

I always hear people lower their car, but they just put on aftermarket spring and using stock shocks. Will the stock shocks be damaged by do this? I really want to know how to set up a good suspension system for my car.

stock strut with aftermarket srping?
after market strut with stock spring?
what's the effect of each combination?

thx~

i dont know how it is for other cars, but the camry's stock struts are not meant to handle all the extra pressure given by lower springs.

hands down, the best combination you can have is both aftermarket springs and struts. the stock struts will eventually blow on lowering springs, because they were not designed to be used at such high compressions.

tokico blues are the highest compression available besides the bilstein/TRD and koni yellow adjustables. kyb's are probably the next highest compression, followed by generic and stock struts.

it all depends on what kind of ride you are looking for.

for near stock feel but better handling, go with eibach/kyb
for the stiffest possible, you will want a race spring with tokicos.

the adjustable koni yellows work wonders, but you have to pay for it
