having a hard time pulling axle out

92 camry le 5sfe

so i was in a minor accident which screwed up the right front control arm sway bar link and ball joint. my cv axle was already shot so i decided to get this replaced also. im working on this car at school and i spent a whole entire class uselessly trying to take that right front axle out. you're supposed to remove the snap ring which i did. remove the bolt thats holding in the bearing which i did. half of my axle just spoit and came off the car. the part that wont come out is the inner cv end. i used a pat punch and hammer on the inner cv hitting outwards and it wouldnt budge. sprayed wd40 and still wouldnt budge. my teacher suggested i take the whole mount off and press it off the axle. easier said than done! that mount is under the intake manifold and theres barely any room in there for a wrench. is there any easier way of doing this? any suggestion would be helpful thanks!

Check past TN threads on this subject, many Camry owners have had this problem. Is the shaft being held in by the bearing mount (frozen bearing)? Some owners have used a large hammer, a torch to heat the mount or removed the mount.

The spring clip on the inner CV shaft can also cause difficulty in removing the shaft. If this is the case, use a pry bar on the inner CV joint to attempt to pop the joint out.

just curious, is if possible to replace the old axle from the tulip joint out? to take apart the new axle, leave the part of the old axle that is stuck in place and use the new joints and boots to replace the old? this would require cutting the steel stap that holds the inner boot in place, but at least you wont have to take that stubborn carrier bearing out. is this possible? just an idea.

totally forgot i posted this. i talked to a mechanic at my work and he suggested torching it to get the bearing housing to expand and slip the bearing out. i totally forgot about using heat to my advantage! thanks. im gonna have to try this monday as my car is in the shop at school.

ghettosled i intend to use the whole new axle. it would cuase less trouble in the long run. plus reinstalling the boot from the old shaft on the new would be a pain
