Main parts to an engine rebuild

If i were to rebuild me 3sfe, what wud be the main things to do? pistions, rings, head gasket, anything else? any other small items that wudnt be that much to replace? Im in the process of gettin a new car, and if i do im gonna turn the Cam into my project car and rebuild it and all, just for some experience and knowledge of how-to kinda shiat. The main thing I think i wud have problems with is setting the timing. I got a haynes manual, but how hard is it exactly to rebuild it? at least just the head gasket if nothing else.

Rings, main bearings, rod bearings, all seals and gaskets, rod bolts, main bolts, etc...

Have the cylinder head rebuilt (valve job, new seals, guides). Might also want to have it decked depending on the flatness of the head.

The removal and teardown of the engine can be done yourself. Any machining and rebuilding of the cylinder head will have to done by a machine shop.

Once you tear the engine apart have the block, pistons, and rods hot tanked to clean off all the crap on it. You don't have to worry about hot tanking the cylinder head cos they'll clean it all up during the rebuild.

If you plan on doing an engine rebuild yourself I highly recommend getting the Toyota repair manual. The haynes and chilton sucks when it comes to telling you everything to do with a rebuild. I have talke dto a few guys that had one of those and I told them about the specifics you have to be with toyota engines and they said it didn't say it in the haynes so I must be full of crap. But trust me I have built many of Toyota engines(all the sludge motors that have come into my dealerhsip) so I know how to rebuild them and the detail you have to have with it. So spend the extra money and get a Toyota repair manual. You will love it in the end.

Yea, DON'T USE A HAYNES OR CHILTON MANUAL. I'm the person that hotwheel's talking about. In the Haynes or Chilton manuals they forget things like rod and main bearing clearences. That's a big thing for them to miss. They also have crappy cam installation and timing instructions.
