In the instrument panel and center console Toyota uses very small light bulbs, I have no clue what # they are. They use 2 small ones for the corners in the instrument panel along with four 1157’s I think.

My question is, where can I get these small lights in blue? Or what can I do to change there color to blue?

1994 I4

Thank you

hey dude.. first u need to change the bigger lights to hyper white then u can go to regency toyota in lougheed and get the blue condom lights the only one u need to change is the one that lights up on the right hand bottom corner which lights up the top speed and the empty sign in the fuel guage .. it would make it into bright white though instead of blue.. (TRD should've asked me last nite when we checked out cars i was in the process of it ) if u want the blue condoms for the lights (blue caps) im actually goin to lougheed toyota tomorrow msg me up in msn to let me know if u want me to ask for u as well.. im pickin mine up ..

I need those bulbs too! Particularly the ones in the instrument cluster. If they made red caps, that would be wicked, but if they dont have em ill just get some glass paint. Anyways, if you guys could shoot over a part # that would help alot when i hit the dealers.

latez.

hmm no idea on the part# because it would depend on which light u want changed.. and the rubber covers are only available in green and blue.. i think if u want red u gotta paint it... but to change the whole cluster light u need to change the 194's (same as ur side marker bulb) to hyper white or in ur case a red one... hope this helps ... when u remove ur cluster u need to change just those and like i said in the previous msg the one small bulb u need that cover for is the one near that lights up the fuel empty part and teh top speed ( only one small bulb lights that area up.. ) the other main lights would just be the hyperwhite 194s hope this helps ya out ratko.. how's ur tranny swap??

Thanks, i already swaped out the 4 wedge bulbs in the cluster and just so it wouldnt kill the whole effect, i took out the 2 smaller bulbs on each end.

The tranny swap is still a 100% thing for this spring. Im just using all the time until then to do all the research I can for the swap. I have a few shops lined up that could do the swap but Ill see if good ol' Yoshio could do it. I have faith that he could do it.

I also spoke to a guy who did an auto-to-manual swap in his VW Passat and he told me the mechanic did the whole thing in 1 day! I hope to God that that could be possible for my car aswell, but we'll have to see.

cool.. actually mine was 8 hours total time except for one of the brackets i had to buy from the dealer which took like 2 hours to get.. but other than that easy swap...

also for the instrument cluster its just one more bulb for consistency.. the other side doesnt turn on only the fuel side small bulbs need a cover why red though just curious...

I have those "condoms" but they are too big for that little one for the high speeds on the speedo and the Empty end of the fuel gauge. I was discouraged that I couldn't complete the whole changeover to hyper white, so just went back to stock green. However, I would still like to do it if possible.

While we're on the same subject, bases which allow you to plug in different bulbs are available at the dealership if you want to replace the gauge bulbs with 194 hyper white bulbs. My stock bulbs were integrated into the twist-off bases.

Humphrey, you're saying that you can get those "condoms" in blue and in a size that fits the small bulb??

Also, I tried to paint that small bulb. It didn't turn out well at all. It wasn't blue or white. It turned out kinda greenish.

Ratko, if you use red glass paint, it may turn out orange. But it's worth a try. Give me a shout if you need to find that red glass paint.

did u remove the green condom on the bulb first b4 u did that? (b4 painting i mean)... im not sure yet about the blue condoms for it but i gotta try to get it the guy at toyota told me he got it already.. plus if u wanted to change the bulbs to make it white u have to change all the lights including the 194s to superwhites in order for them to change totally into white ... ( dont u have the indiglos already? jeff?)

Speaking of bulbs, is there a way to change the color and brightness of the bulbs in the a/c defroster climate controls? Thanks

Ya I was wondering how much those plastic bases cost?

Humphrey, I should have asked you about that at our meet but I just decided to do this project this morning.. he he

that little light is the biggest problem I find. I also want to make them blue behind my heat gauges (it is also the small light)

Thanx for the help

You can get red bulbs. Try a autoparts store. I got mine at Kragen's.

Ratko nice lights n everything. Did u get the little green lights on the a/c and knobs to come up brighter? If so how did you do it cause mine looks very dim. I tried dismantling the AC controles panel but was having trouble. Thanks
