exhaust smell inside

at some times, i would smell exhuast in the cabin. i believe that it's coming from the engine bay because that's where the smell is the strongest.

could this be a cause of a broken exhaust pipe? but the exhaust seems fine. i don't see any tears or cracks. the exhast does not seem to make weird, high pitch noises that a cracked exhausts would make.

could this be due to the EGR malfunction? that is the only thing that i know is wrong with the car. the cel light is on and give code: 71. this probably explain my unstable idle in normal running temp.

any suggestions or tips?

Code 71: Only on Cali Spec Vehicles:

50 Seconds from start of EGR operation. EGR Gase temp is under 70C with engine coolant temp at 80C or more

-Open in EGR gas temp sensor circuit
-Open in VSV circuit for EGR
-EGR vacumme hose disconected, valve stuck
-Clogged in EGR gas passage
-ECM

im having a similiar problem, but no CEL, its just when im really on it or going up hills, i cant see or feel any breaks or cracks, and you can hear anything different. but the smell is extremely bad
