Camry V6 vs 4 Cyl comparison

Hi, any idea which engine gives more stability V6 or conventional 4 cyl. While, talking to one dealer, he told me generally V6 is expected to go 150K and 4 cyl to 200K.

Also, what is the standard mileage that V6 engine gives for Camry.

I'd expect them both to go over 200k if maintained properly.

for both, with proper maintenance, good gas and good oil, they will both last just as long as each other- even 500K isn't out of question

i think the dealer you talked hasn't go t a clue. toyota engines will last much longer than what he quoted you as long as you service them regularly and take care of them.

The guy you talked to may have been influneced by recent experience with head gaskets on the V-6 toyota motors of the past ten years, which is IMHO, a black eye on toyota's fine record of reliability.

It isn't the first time toyota has had a problem, since any company can overlook a potential design challenge. Recently, the engine knock on the tundra motor has consumers up in arms, and when I owned a 1984 Supra (bought new) with the 5M-GE motor, they had a bad problem with oil starvation to the cam bearings. They designed a new oil filter with an anti-drainback valve to produce oil pressure more quickly after startup. They also replaced ALL of the fuel injectors at only 11k miles.

However, without that kind of failure, and regular maintenance, both the four and six cylinder motors should exceed 200k miles.

If you are faced with a choice go with the V6....wish I had. If nothing else it's nice to have the extra power and smoothness of the V6. Both engines however will run a long time, over 200,000 miles is a given. I've personally seen and driven in a 400,000 mile 1994 Camry.

Cool

v6 no reason for the i4's to exists if you have a choice on what you're buying.
The v6's in good condition get the same mileage as the i4's in less than good condition. Plus, you get better hardware, and trim with a v6.

So basically. If you have the rescources to go v6. You might aswell do it. If you don't. Camry is still a great basic car.

My 4cyl 2000 Camry has over 220k on the motor. In the "Annual Camry Mileage Post!" thread, someone posted that one of the camry's he sold has over 508k now.
