Mud Guards

I was thinking of getting mud guards for the 03 to protect my investment and went to the dealer and they wanted $102.90 for black non colored ones!!

Now I'm having second thoughts. Are those worth it? Anyone out there actually paid for them and have it on? I heard rumors that those just provoke rust around the mud guards. Any inputs?

To install mudguards on your 03 camry, you have to drill four (two on each side) holes to mount the rear pair. If you're not prepard to do so, you can forget about it. As far as price, you can purchase them on Ebay for about $50-$60 but another thing to watch out for is the actual part number and color. The true non-painted mudguards for the 02 and up camry is actually grey plastic, the back ones are not a perfect match to the body panels. I only know this because I went through this ordeal months ago.

I cringed when I had to drill into the rear bumper but I'm glad I have them becasue they prevent dirt and crap from spraying the sides and rear bumper for my car.

When I looked, There were four holes, two on each side, in the rear wheel well. I was thinking these were the holes. I also emailed the tech guy at toyotaparts4u and he said that there's no drilling required???

But denuder, you went through this a while back, so I don't know if they did a minor change by predrilling the holes on later models and whatnot.

Can you post some pics of the installed part if it isn't too much trouble? Thanks.

Every one I talked to a while back told me no drilling required. Little did they know that for the fifth generation, the camry did not have factory holes for them in the rear. The front pair requires no drilling, they use the existing factory holes. The rear pair requires three screws on each side, the bottom anchor screw uses an exisiting factory hole, the remaining upper two require you to drill into the plastic bumper.

I have a 2003 Camry SE 4cyl 5 speed so I doubt that anything has changed regarding this install. Double check the part number, I think some dealers are selling the mudguards for the 2001 models with out thinking. I think toyotaguys.com and toyotaparts4u.com are selling the wrong ones. I think the correct part number is 08414-33810. I bought mine on Ebay but there is a dealer in Michigan that has a fair price. Try toyotapart.com

Sorry but I don't have any pics to share.

I'm tryin the dealer next, I asked them and they wanted $102.80 for four sets. (NOT PAINTED) I asked them if they have painted ones and they looked at me like I was on crack.

Compared to this price, toyotaparts4u sounds fishy, considering that they're selling the COLORED ones for 89 bucks.

So when worst comes to worst, I gotta paint em on my own with a clearcoat. What a hassle.

Yay! I finally got the 03 mudguards from the dealer. I already drilled the holes. But I need to paint them to match the body color, as the dealer doesn't carry the colored ones.

I need to apply several coats apparently, the paint adhesive, the paint, and the clearcoat. They were going to charge me 60 bucks for labor. Whatever, I'm going to do it myself.
