New Camry Sedan now has 3.3L V6??

Hi guys,

We are having a discussion at another site about the new 03 Camry V6 (with the 1MZ-FE VVT-i engine and 5AT) but there is this other guy "Lumpy" claiming that it's not the 3.0L but rather the 3.3L.

I told him....

I think you're confused with the new Solara. That one is the one with the 3.3L engine, the 3MZ-FE. 225HP and 240TQ or whatever it was. I forget exactly. Current Solara still has the non-VVT-i 3.0L 1MZ-FE.
...but he is still insisting that the Camry now has a 3.3L engine.

WTH?

BTW, this is the updated AccordV6.com site. We have moved to newer/faster servers and a new domain and the site is no longer only Honda's. We have Nissan and Toyota forums now also, so y'all are more than welcomed to signup and paticipate if you are so inclined.

In late January (for Canada at least), vvti was added to the Camry's V6. That's all the upgrades I've heard of.

I was pretty sure the 3.3 was coming out in 2004?

This guy sells new Toyotas???

Check this:

Another dumbass salesperson who doesn't even bother to look at engine, just believes what he hears. Show that idiot this Toyota link. It took me all of 5 seconds to find it.

BTW, I saw Lumpy's pathetic attempt at a response. If he sells Toyotas, why not just ask him to look at the window sticker of one with VVTi and notice the displacement? If it were the 3.3L VVTi, it would look like this, with the 3.3 logo!!!

I don't know what they have planned for 2004, but I can tell you that I just bought (a month ago or so) a mid-year 2003 Camry LE V-6. The car is now made with the 3.0L 1MZ-FE WITH VVT-i, and produces 210 hp and 220 ft-lb torque. It is not, repeat NOT, the new 3.3L 3MZ-FE, which has just appeared in the new Sienna and RX330 models. As I understand, the 3MZ's external dimensions are the same as the 1MZ, so there might be an upgrade for 2004, but as of when I bought, my sources claimed not to know. Guess we'll see when the wraps come off the 04s.

ekpolk,

Thanks for the info.

Just curious - do you have a feel for what the top speed in each gear is on the new 5spd automatic tranny? This is something I'm trying to figure out also.

http://www.toyotanation.com/showthre...threadid=16466

Even just rough guesstimates are okay - anything would be appreciated.

I hope for a 3.3L Camry too. And a manual tranny V6 again. 3.3L Camry + manual tranny = ultimate sleeper.

The 1MZ seems to be the same block design as the 3MZ, with the extra 0.3L of displacement coming from a bore increase.

1MZ: 3.44 x 3.27in
3MZ: 3.62 x 3.27in

Also looks like they bumped up the compression from 10.5:1 on the 1MZ to 10.8:1 on the 3MZ. Sweet!

Just curious, what is the R:S ratio on the 1MZ/3MZ?

1.74:1

Well i assume since the bore and compression were the only things increased, that the rod length remains the same as the 1MZ.

It is next to impossible to find the rod length specs for the 1MZ on the net, but several 1MZFE engine builders have used slightly modified 22R rods in place of the stock 1MZ rods because they are identical in almost every way, except bearing thickness, which is something like a .001 mm difference.
