Has anyone taken there side molding off? If so i was just wondering if you have any pictures, so that i can tell if i like it with it off or on better. I just was considering doing this because i have heird of people doing it to other type of cars, and have seen pics and it doesnt look bad. Just curious. Thanks
you cna't jsut take them off on a gen3 - don't know about other gens - cuz they're not just ontop of your door....there are grooves in your door for them.....so you basically gotta take it to a shop to get it done....gottqa remold the door panels and stuff,,,,

so on the gen 3 there not just stuck on with two sided tape? I would figure that they are attached to the door by two sided tape, put in the grove, but the grove is just there after you remove the side molding. so there screwed in or something?
Thats what i was thinking too jon, so have any of you guys seen or have any pics of the side moldings off. What you think, would it look better on or off. I just cant decide.
there is extensive bodywork in shaving the side moldings i hope you know... its not just a removal of the molding. a piece of metal has to be welded over top the groove to make the door flush, it has to be smoothed, bondoed, etc, and then you have to get your fenders and doors completely repainted... not cheap if you arent already getting the whole car repainted.
yukio has done this mod, youd probably get the best info from him
well it would be really nice to fill in the groove that runs the side of the car after i took the molding off, but i am not going to get my car repainted. I was not meaning it to be smooth, but have the intent there instead of the side molding that is there now. Instead of bulging it would indent.
I have a 96 V6 and just pulled the short strip of moulding off the front fender right behind the driver's side wheel, right in before the door. It is stuck on w/double sided tape, but there were also two holes for the "tabs" that help hold the moulding on.The longer strips of moulding would probably also have holes, so you may want to take that into consideration.
My Gen 2's back door thing fell off after my Bro backed it into the bush on the side of my driveway! and it had just a indent where the plastic/rubber was and no holes or anything, just a indent for the side thing to fit in.

Well that is what i was hoping the gen 3 would have, then i would probably take the side moldings off. But if there is holes then i wont. I really need to find out, maybe i will just go to the junk yard and rip them off a gen 3 that is smashed up. We will see, if any of you know the answer that would be awsome.
You cant simply take the mouldings off, on my 92 camry i would have to take the mouldings and then fill up the indent left by with either body filler or a piece of metal, your best best it just leave them on unless you're going to get the job done professionally.
You might regret taking the moldings off later on! I regret it because my door has no ding protection anymore, anyone could open the door and put a nice big scratch on my door!!

well i really would like it to be smooth, but well i am not doing that much body work, i actually was just going to go for the indented look. I have seen some cars like that and i dont think it looks that bad. But as for door dings, well it helps and i may not like having them off after a while, but i can always put them back on. I really just need to know if there are holes for the molding to fit in or not, that will make alot of the desision making.
