drifting is bad

I just got off the highway when I notice I couldn't stop because the car kept reving. The rear end broke free and I drift through the turn. The whole time I was pumping the brake until I finally came to a complete stop. The car was still reving until somewhere at 6000rpm the dropped back down. When I got home I realize that the throttle cable get stuck for some reason. I don't know what's going on but I'm going to spray some 10-w40 on it until I have time to go to the shop.

Sounds fun! musta been a pain in the ass. Did you have shift to neutral so that you wouldn't go anywhere?

You didn't "drift" per se. You lost control of the car.

You want to spray 10w-40 on the cable?? That's a motor oil grade. You mean WD40???

LoL... good point.

I can drift somewhat, more of just a slide. Only because I have bald tires that were bad to begin with.. hehe

That sounded pretty tense and dangerous. Glad to hear that you held onto it. 'Honestly officer, it wasn't my fault, The throttle stuck when I mashed it to the floor...'
It can be fun drifting, even in an FWD, but on the highway
I have done my share of drifting, but once I was cut off by an oblivious guy in a minivan while going at highway speeds on the 427. I'm telling that variable-assist power steering has it's place, but it stiffens at highway speeds and can mess with your head when you are trying to take agressive evasive action. I went into a 4-wheel slide on dry pavement complete with lots of blue tire smoke. I was not thinking 'this is cool', I was thinking 'how many cars will hit me before I die here today?' Anyway I'm still here and still have the Corolla GT-S. I had a blast last summer drifting on dirt backroads with lots of tight corners in Algonquin Park.

Drift?

[QUOTE]Originally posted by 1owner

Do tell how can you drift a FWD ? I am kinda curious for I am a firm believer that it is impossible to drift a FWD, and any attempt would be a "power slide" or whatever you want to call it.
To get some evidence supporting my thoguhts I searched and found this webpage. Hopefully this will clear the minds of some of you and affirm some others.

Well, if you consider that "drifting" refers to the movement of the car (eg sideways, crooked if you will), it doesn't really matter how you got that way -- whether it's powering into a turn in a RWD car or lift-off on the throttle in *any* car. Only real difference is it's potentially easier to control in RWD than FWD. It's all about weight transfer versus grip.

ahem, acutally I am and in a FWD car that is not drifting...did you even try to check out the sites that I posted? When you drift you use either throttle to break the back end out or ebrake and then countersteer and use throttle and brakes to "control" your slide. To do this in a FWD is near impossible, since, well, you can't really break the back loose and if you use throttle you will not be able to "Drift" at all, you will be powersliding. Check the sites to be more informed.
