adding spacer to my 99' camry.

Hi, i wondering what will it look like if i at spacer to my 99' camry without lowering.?

will it look good? without changing wheel.

my wheel is a standard 15" 6 stroke alloy wheel.

is adding spacer just for appearance? no cornering help?

thanks

It's mostly for looks. Also, it depends, but generally, adding a spacer without changing the studs are dangerous. The studs could snap if you're cornering very hard. If I were you, I'd stay out of it. If you really want to improve appearence, get new rims. Don't waste your money and jeopardize your safety with those spacers.

Don't put spacers on your car if you don't need to.

It's asking for more trouble. And if anything it'll worsen handling of your car.

oh, it will worsen the handling??!?!!

I thought if the wheel is harder, it is better for cornering.(let say i change studs too)

just like Pontiac GrandAM, very wide and good cornering... i think ... or first of all it(Grandam) doesn't perform.

Unfortunately, automotive engineering is not that simple. You can't just relate it to Grand Prix and use that reasoning.

Re: adding spacer to my 99' camry.

I don't think an extra 5-10 mm on each side will make any difference in handling with your stock tires. If anything, it will add some weight. For improved handling get lower profile rims - helps a lot.

I just upgraded my '00 LE to Lexus IS300 17x7 wheels (same as in the "how can you not look" post above). +50 mm offset, so they needed a spacer. I think they fill the fender better than stock. Compared to OEM they stick-out 5mm more with a 5 mm spacer and 215 width tires(can't put 225 - you'll need 10mm spacer for +50 mm offset rims).

I can tell you I don't like having the spacer (only put 5mm H&R spacer in the rear), but the wheel mounted OK and the car runs very smooth now (had un-fixable vibrations before). I had to change the rear studs (used OEM front studs, which are exactly 5mm longer than the rears).

Spacers are not bad at all. If you use the right kind! And yes get longer studs of course!

Some shops in my area told me that they won't do alignment or wheel ballance on my car because of the spacers... Could not clearly explain why - mumbled something about the car being off-spec... Although in my case the spacers bring the car to spec (they compensate for the too positive offset I got on my rims).

Btw, my lug nuts are now settled - no more re-tightening was necessary after about 250 miles on them. And the H&R spacers did fit very nicely around the hub - no play at all. So I think with the right spacers and proper mounting (longer studs and centering of the wheel) he should be fine and will get somewhat more aggressive looks with his stock wheels (unless this is an oximoron that is .

I don't think getting longer studs will help the problem that your hub is still 5mm short when it comes in contact with the wheel.

Nope. But it is still barely long enough to center the wheel. Not the case if the spacer is thicker though...
