I want to replace my cat on my car with a high flow one and I was wondering what size I should get or what size the stock one is?

My car is a V6 and I also wanted to know if 2.5 was a good diameter for the pipes?

I also I am going to get a new resinator so I need to know what size that is too, I know Jeff got a new one but I lost that part number and the like to the pics.

I think you're referring to both a high flow cat and a cat-back exhaust.

2.5" piping is fine for your V6. 2.25" is the way to go for us I4s. Make sure you go to a place that uses mandrel bend pipes.

I don't know what the specs of my high flow cat is, and the size of the resonator depends on what kind of sound you want. the bigger the resonator, the less sound, and deeper the tone.

I'll post up the link to the pics when I find it.

Dual pipes? You will lose low end torque so you might want to reconsider and maybe just split near the end to go dual pipes out both corners... if I understood right what it is you are trying to do.

Like Anish said, you will lose your low end. You need some backpressure in your exhaust system unless you want to sound loud and lose alot of your low end. Talk with an experienced muffler shop and get some advice from them.

As far as the size of the cat goes, the differences are in the inlet/outlet diameters, and on the CFM flow rate.

I would say a high flow cat on a v6 is always good as long as you have a good exhaust system.Like the said you will lose some low end but gain high end.I hate when people start making things sound worst then they are, if you go with a high flow cat and free flowing exhaust you should be happy with the results and probably have some nice high-end gains. Why do i say this beacause after building 15 cars I think I know what im talking about and because my friend runs a car tuning shop that has done tons of Rally cars exhausts.IMHO If I was you I would go with a single exhaust system with a 2.5 or 3 inch pipe since back presure is extremly present on our crapy headers(if you want to call that mess a header)Remember each setup has its flaws.

Geeze the hostility. But anyways...yes, Toyota V6 headers are thin straws. A high flow cat and larger diameter piping may help...but with the restrictive headers...it's kind of a lost cause.

Ben, have you worked much with Toyota V6s?

Like I said earlier, if you want that dual look out of both corners you could get the single pipe to split into a dual end from about under the back seat. That way it is sort of between a single and dual setup and there is no real low-end torque loss.

OH!!! OK, sorry I think I missed that, so if I put the y pipe under the rear seat I won't lose low end power! I really don't want to lose low end power! All this is going to take some pondering and a lot of talking to people.

Thanks A lot!

something to keep into mind. If you are going to do a dual split setup...you will not get the exhausts symmetrical like the Accord V6. The reason why is your spare trunk well is not centered...it is offset to the left to clear the existing exhaust. So good luck...but you will not get it mounted symmetrically.

I have a 92 V6 as well and went for 2.5 inch piping, dual tipped muffler with 3" tips. I had to install two resonators because it was so damn loud. I also thought about going dual mufflers as well, but it's not going to give you any gains or anything...just looks nice...actually, someone said it'd look ghetto so I said screw it. Plus, you'd probably have to alter your back bumper (if stock) to make it match up with the right side....

sample photochop of dual mufflers....
