Here in Toronto and Ontario in general you get a ticket for removing the license plate from your front bumper.
Usually a cop pulls you over and notifies you about it being illegal and then inserts it into the system, and the next cop that sees you driving with it on the dash automatically gives you a ticket.
It's happened to my friend before, and it almost happened to me, but I put mine back on the bumper as soon as I got notified to do so.

Well for the spare it came with the set i bought off a guy on sc3. As for the plates, I dont understand the cops and state troopers in the entire dallas fortworth region but for all the times ive past a cop and all the times ive been pulled over (5X), they have not said one thing about it and i know they know since ive always been targeted head on with the police. But on the other hand most of my other friends (who all have honda/acuras and mitsu's) have been harrassed many times for no plates or for them being on the dash. But for me i have no front plates anywhere nor on the dash. I dont know really but its wierd.
In Massachusetts for the most part you have to have both front and rear plates. However, if you have an old plate, you only need a rear plate. The old plates were white with green letters and a green outline of the plate. The new(er) ones have a blue outline with red letters. I used to have green plate on the van, but now all the plates we have now are red, white and blue. I hate a Kentucky plate on the Corsica when I first had it, only needed a rear plate, but it had a front bracket already anyway.
