Eating tires

The primary driver of our Camry CE 4dr drives the car like she stole it. 28k miles ago we put Goodyear aquatread 3 and now the inside and outside edges are bald. Rotation has been done 5-8k and the pressure is always kept at 30 psi. Alignment has stayed at factory specs since new. I gave up trying to slow her up on the corners. Any one have any suggestions on better tires or maybe bigger tires? She went through the original tires in 17k miles.

What is your budget? I could suggest a better tire, but it depends on your budget too. Try some of the all-season Michelins for her. Some of them have a sickly high treadwear rating.

Also, you might want to try a slightly higher tire pressure setting. 30 is a little too low imo. Try 32-34 psi if you are using stock tire size.

I was thinking about the Michelin X one's at tirerack and was hoping someone that was a "vigorous" driver had some experience some of the high mileage tires. The original tires wore the same way so I kept the pressure at 35 but the dealer would bring it back to 30 at each rotation. He said that newer radials don't re-act to pressure like the older tires did. I think that was BS. Whatever tire I get, I will keep the pressure up a little more anyway.

Yes I've heard a lot of good things about the Michelin X-Ones. Keep tire pressure higher... when I had a Camry, the dealer used to lower the tire pressure to 30 as well... I always put it back up to 34 and I got much better gas mileage, performance and tread wear.

Are you from Canada? I might be able to get you a good deal on the Michelin X-Ones.

Ban her from driving - problem solved.

Generally, with higher treadwear comes loss in performance. This is the same predicament I am having. I've done some comparisons on TireRack, and am leaning towards the Bridgestone RE950's with a 40/45K treadwear warranty or the Yokohama Avid V4 with a 45K.

bump up the pressure to 40-42, that's how i run mine, outside edges are all worn out, workign on the middle

or let her blow out a tire, and make her pay to get them replaced, she'll have had a good scare, and her wallet will be hurting, she'll learn

or if this is your daughter, don't let her drive your vehicles, tell her to get a job and buy her own, tires in 17 000 miles is rediculous

do the alignment more often

on my camry i do the alignment every oil change just to make sure it is perfect, buy a three year or lifetime alignment package and have it done at least every other oil change.

You should buy the supercharger and hook it up for her. Love a girl who'll tear up the road in a camry... kinda like what i do on occasion with mine... not that I've met one. Well... a good idea might be to give her a van, that'll teach her to drive a little slower at least. Of course she could end up like me when she gets a normal car again and start driving all agressively and end up hitting someone :\

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Getting her to slow down is out of the question so I'll keep the tires pumped up at least 35.
