running rough

I have a 99 camry with the 2.2 engine. The engine is suppose to be rebuilt. The car runs rough. I checked the timing belt the marks are on perfectly. The car is hard to start. It misses and back fires a bit. I thought it might be a bent valve. But the valve train is very quiet. While typing this I had an idea i checked the crank position sensor I thought it might be loose. I also pulled the crank pulley. The crank timing pulley is missing a tooth for the sensor. With one tooth missing on the pulley will that make the make the hard to start car run rough and stall. I hate getting cars that other people have been into. Any info on the crank gear and how it affects the performance is greatly appreaciated. thank you for your replys. You will see me on here many times. I do repairs for Ministerial students. And God knows they dont have a lot of $$$$. Your answers are greatly appreciated so I can repair these cars for the students as cheap as possible. P.S. Is the air gap adjustable on the crank position sensor?

Standup,

I saw a thread not too long ago that addressed a missing tooth from the crank pulley. I'm too lazy to do a search, but you should be able to find it easily.

Bottom line....the missing tooth caused the engine to run rough, IIRC.
