2AZ-FE vs. 1MZ-FE cold start idle

I took my mom's car the other day and I noticed it idled just under 2K RPM and only dropped down to 1.4K RPM after a good minute or so -- the temp gauge also stays at the cold mark for a while. After sitting overnight my car idles at 1.4K RPM and after 30s it's at just over 1.1K RPM and it's warmed up in a minute or two of driving. Anyway, I just thought it was interesting. I cringe when my mom goes to work in the morning cuz she waits maybe 5-10 seconds so she's shifting into drive from almost 2K RPM -- that can't be good for the tranny. I realize it's completely normal as it's done that since we got it 10 years ago but I just thought it was interesting.

Don't mind the quality of the pictures..they're from my phone . BTW, in the mornings it's 75 degrees here in Honolulu. I can only imagine if it were winter on the mainland. My mom's car would need to be warmed up for much longer than 30s-1m!

At 75 degrees, I wouldn't worry too much about it as long as she's easy on the gas for the first few minutes.

If you want to talk about long warm up times, try getting a 6.0 turbo diesel to warm up when it's 38 degrees outside. It can be driven while it's cool, but it feels like the turbo doesn't spool or boost is vented until the engine and the oil is nice and warm. I can leave it idling 1200-1500 RPM with the throttle lock for 5-10 minutes and the temperature will still be cold and the oil pressure still fairly high.
