Xle is the "luxurious" version of the camry while le is midgrade. Dx/ CE were bottom end (though I could be wrong with CE.)

Basically differences like leather, power options-- ie windows, doors, mirrors. Other things are asthetic like the side mirrors and the outside handles not being the color of the car if it was a dx.

the order is:

dx< LE< xle

What RunningOnFumes said, except leather is still another option, even on the XLE's.

For the Gen4s, it was CE<LE<XLE.

XLE had the wood trim and probably a few other aesthetic additions.

On my 94 XLE 5SFE engine purchased new, abs was still an option. I think it was around an $1100 option as back then the rear drum brakes had to be upgraded to rear discs.

Wood trim was still a separate option on both my 94 (generation 3) and my 98 (generation 4). Both were XLE's. My 07 XLE comes with the wood trim standard. I can't speak for the generation 5's.

^^ then I presume you got the 4cyl xle? because all the v6's came with rear discs.

and yeahhhh.....too bad abs came as an option back then....otherwise I'd have it....not that I care too much in the summer, but in the winter it would be helpful
