low idle at cold start

alright, it seems to me that there is a valve or something that needs cleaned out.

I'm not too familiar with toyota's and it would be nice to get some help as to what may be the issue.

instead of idling at 1000+ rpm on a cold start, it goes right to 700-800 where it sits steady.

Any ideas?

Clean the idle air control valve. You can get to the passage leading to the valve inside the throttle body. Remove the big rubber tube leading to the throttle body and at the base of the throttle body you will see a square or diamond shaped hole. That is the passage leading to the throttle body. Spray throttle body cleaner or oxygen sensor safe carb cleaner liberally down there and let it soak for 5 or 10 minutes. You can clean the rest of the inside of the throttle body while you are waiting. If you are not familiar with how to do this do a search on this forum for "throttle body cleaning". There have been numerous posts about it on this forum.

Try checking the cold start time swtich, or the engine coolant temp sensor also.
My ECT sensor was slightly unplugged once and when started cold..it idled low...at 600-700rpm on cold start..plugged it in again a wallah!

Both are located on the right side of the engine next to the cylinder head (when looking at the engine from front on). There screwed into what is called the coolant bypass pipe. The ECT is the one with the green plug and the cold start time switch is the one with the grey plug.
