headlights will this work?

I am intrested in upgrading my headlights to something brighter, although I am not looking for those lights that mimic the HID look. I have a 1993 Camry V6XLE which uses 9006s(51w) for the lows, and 9005s (60w) for the highs. I would like to be able to swap 9005s into the lows, i was just planning on cutting the plastic guides on the 9005s allowing them to fit into the harness designed for the 9006. Does anyone know if this will work, or do I have to upgrade a wiring harness/relay/lens or anything to avoid melting something or ruining some part of the electrical system? Thanks

A lot of people have done that.

It will work, as long as you have the right tools (dremel makes things a snap).

good luck.

A dremmel is best but I've used a small flathead screw driver and a lighter before ...McGyver style!

Do it. Both harnesses are rated for 60w. I did my neighbors Teg last night and I've had mine that way for 2 or 3 years now on the Camry, best DIY mod I've ever done. I've pretty much done the like on all my cars.
It goes well with Sylvaina Silverstars too.

Hint - pull the colored rubber ring off the 9006 bulb and put it on the 9005 while still retaining the original ring on the 9005. This will reduce vibration thus reducing filimant detachment as the 9005 is a short curly smaller than the 9006.
Good Luck.

This DIY will easily produce a little more than twice the amount of light for the cost of two new 9005 bulbs and five minutes of your time to carve them out.

...I won't drive with 9006's any more :p

thanks for the help, I thought about HID light and would love to have them but they will have to wait, being a student trying to save $400 for lights is difficult to justify when many other things need attention. I actually just got back from the local autozone, got 2 9005s for $14 and change(got the cheapies).

BLUEMEANIE- How does a 18 watt increase total produce approx. 2 times the lights, just curious.

It's better to just change the harness because in the long run the harness and the bulb socket will begin to melt, then u will have to buy a new harness and a new light bulb
