When I drive in the rain, I actually see steam coming off the hood...happened the other day. I don't like that at all, it's kinda annoying. Does this happen to anyone else? Not sure if my engine is running unusually hot, the coolant temp looks fine...however, I think I may have a thermostat problem. Reason why I bring this up is that I just read that thread on knock sensors and how your engine can get hotter than normal. This happens from regular driving, nothing hard. BTW, I don't have that hodd underpadding on my 92 V6.
most if not all cars steam when it rains
only our toyotas dont useually come with lining and therefore the hood takes the heat which makes your hood steam
dont worry atleast you've got a camry
my ae92 hood boils in the matter of 5 minutes of driving

i got the hood "underpadding" on my gen 3 i4... so yeah... I guess I don't steam... ohh hold on, I live in Arizona, it never rains here... I guess I would never know...
rain? I live in the heart of toronto and my igloo never ices up. If it'd rain, I'd have trouble coming out of my gloo' in the morning. So don't know what you guys are talking about. My igloo never melts.
When I painted my car my guys forgot to put back on the under hood padding, Its wasnt until I drove in the rain I noticed the eminent steam coming from the hood, when I popped the hood it was the first thing I noticed was missing was the under hood mat. Thats what its there for, to protect your paint from the heat.
