does anyone know anything about swaping the 2.7 out for another engine???? heard camry engine was the one??';and what year models i can put in it or just if you know any engine i can put in
sorry for the confusion...i have a 1999 dodge intrepid with a 2.7. which blew ran dry outta oil...friend talked with a dealer mechanic, he says to drop a toyota camery engine in it....i want to know...is this possible...will it work?? if so what year would the engine have to be...mechanic said itll fit right in...if not...does anyone know what other engine i can drop into my car besides another 2.7?
fit right in? like what has been said before, anything is possible. but for something to just fir right in, im not sure your mechanic knew what he was talking about. you're talking about putting an import engine into your dodge.
not saying it's not possible but i mean, i just don't get the question maybe. i don't see anything working without some kind of really good quality work with wiring and crap.
it may be easier with a newer model engine, but in my mind i believe you're talking about probably a later model engine such as the 2.2 or 3.0. which would be the most popular choice for this case, and i just can't stop asking myself WHY?
why wouldn't the mechanic say to put the same engine back in the car that it was made for? IT WAS MADE FOR IT!!!!!
anyways

my brother use to work.. in a dealer that 99% of the work they did was to rebuil crappy intrepid engines from not to old intrepids... ALL OF THEM,, BLEW THE ENGINE WITH LOW MILEAGE... Cause: lack of lubrication... I dont know why but they all do the same crap..they create a lot of oil varnish and dirt kind of.. that eventually kill the oil pump.
About the camry swap.. THAT'S CRAZY.. but if i was you.. i'll sell the DODGE.. and get a TOYOTA... camry.. corolla or whatever.. BUT NEVER A DOGE INTREPID.. they look good.. they run good.. but those engines dont last nothing..
It's because Chrysler made the oil capacity retardedly small for the size and configuration of that engine. The engines then sludge up with rediculously low mileage on them, even when they are properly maintained.
I was considering buying a later-model Sebring with the same 2.7 V6 in it and came across this site. Should explain the shortcomings of that particular engine quite well. It says in the article that newer (2005+) 2.7l V6 engines from Dodge Magnums and Chrysler 300's are designed with an increased oil capacity to correct this problem, so if at all possible have the Intrepid's engine replaced with one of those. Or at least swap out the oil pan for the larger version.

well so i can put in a later model engine correct??....it ran good all the way through 140 000 miles...the oil line or injector or somthing is too small in the 2.7 causing not enough lube causing seizure....thats why you dont put the same engine in...plus i just bought a new house and a bog truck so yea...so the later model engine would be the one that will go in right?
