Originally posted by Stealth Maybe you should swap in a v6... wouldn't be much more expensive. Well, you gotta get a tranny too, but its a good chance to get a manual one.
actually man, its not as easy as you would think for an i4 to v6 swap. everything from chip to exhaust has to be changed out (not cost effective seeing as the v6 would only have 150whp anyway).
97KaMuRi, talk to justin (wraith) about the mr2 parts if you are serious about it. he knows entirely too much about all toyota engines
if you had to ask me, id just get a new stock i4 motor for now. you wont have a running camry for a long time if you want to be swapping different engine components. unless you already have a really good knowledge of toyota motors and where to find them, its going to require a lot of time, research, and effort to make a mod like that cost effective in the slightest bit. its never a bad idea to take the safe route. just my $.02
Originally posted by 97KaMuRi I just freakin blew my motor on my 97 camry le. Im getting a new motor. I want to know what parts from the mr2 can i put on it. btw i have an i4.
Put a stick in and make a 5sfte. Might as well do it while it's all apart. That's my honest advice. I'd love to have an opportunity for that. Except... if my engine blew right now, I'd have no money.

What is blown on your engine ?If the block and crank are still good maybe you should think about a nice 5sgte hybrid motor .A swap will cost you alot atleast 4500$ and then that is being optimistic.Your best bet is to stick to what you already have a 5sfe.The V6 would be fun but forget it too much work for the performance.Get a 5spd trans and ecu and your set that will give you and extra 25hp and let you upgrade later on.
Originally posted by celica/camry well what about if he made a 5sge.....used the 3sge rods, head, and both manifolds...also i think u use the ge computer
I don't think the 3sge rods and 5sfe pistons will fit together, or the 3sge rods and the 5sfe crank. I've never researched it though, so I can't say anything for sure. But everyone needs to learn that making hybrids between with the 5s series and the 3s series isn't that easy. Just because the Wraith is doing it doesn't mean that it's a common thing, and it seems to be that everyone is starting to think that it is.

Agreed.
Its not as easy as just swapping parts like most ppl think.
Some guy over on the TeamSC3 forum heard / thought that a piston from a 3S-GTE would work on a 5S-FE.

Common sense that it wouldn't be big enough because of the larger displacement in the 5sfe, right?
Yup.
Bore on 3S block (3S-FE, 3S-GE, 3S-GTE) is 3.39".
Bore on 5S block is 3.43". .040" bigger then 3S.

Vice versa maybe if you machine it?
Maybe.
Bore out a 3S block by .040" and a piston from a 5S will physically fit (diameter wise).
The skirt length, wrist pin position, wrist pin diameter, etc.. is another story. I haven't compared both pistons side by side so I can't say for sure if it'll work or not.
