does replacing the muffler actually do anything to your performance or is it purely for looks/sound?

if it does impact performance, are there any performance mufflers that DONT make extra noise? my reason being i want a stock lookin camry, and i dont want a muffler that makes a wicked loud sound, because my "belief" is that the loud sounds should come directly from the engine, not needing the muffler to amplify it (just my opinion, dont flame me for it)

replacing just the muffler is basically just for asthetics.....performance-wise, unless you get a whole catback (or from even further up), it'll make no real diff....*maybe* 1hp type of thing.....

and good luck getting that loud sound from your engine bay unless you either have a v8 under the hood, or you're gonna need a bov for your car....:p

ok yeah i know, im not expecting a whole lot of roaring sound coming out of the engine bay, but i still hold to my belief that IF there is a roaring sound, it should come from the engine not a muffler

i have a 94 camry v6

in my questoin i meant just the muffler part, not including the catback and the stuff towards the engine end.

i actually like the muffler/exhaust tips that are stock on my camry. they seem to be stainless steel or chrome or sumtin shiny (

) tipped, dual tip muffler, i think it looks cool but it is by no means overboard on the rice-factor, obviously cause its stock. its just a stylish stock

the worst thing I hate on my car is my muffler. at first it was all fun but sooner or later I learn to hate the constant roar of it. Now I have to find a away to quiet it down. Worst come to worst I'll just but my stock back on.

you should!! i really like the stock muffler on mine. its nice lookin cause of dual tips and its shiny, but it's not overhaul cause afterall, it's stock. it's a suttle style

when you talk about performance muffler, I want to ask a few questions. There are ads about performance muffler, talking about how GOOD they are.

I just want to know what the main difference between those expensive and cheap muffler?
will the expensive muffler give you more hp increase?

also what size of the cat back is best fit for 4 cyl with no turbo

uh, do you know what a muffler does..?

it muffles the sound of the engine...

engines are LOUD and mufflers MUFFLE the sound, making it not so loud...

basically, unless it's stock with OEM dimensions, you're going to get a different sound, and it's usually ALWAYS louder...

"just a muffler" will get you around 2 hp MAX...

it's better to just wait until you can get something else to improve performance...

so, it's really up to you...
