Power Steering Fluid

Can anyone tell me how to change the power steering fluid on a 2000 Camry 2.2L?

Remove the upper return hose going from the pump to reservoir, start engine and let the pump to force the fluid out. Add fluid but don’t run the pump without fluid. Stop engine and refill if reservoir gets to low. Keep adding fluid until the outgoing fluid is clear.

Or over time use a turkey baster or similar to remove as much fluid from the reservoir as possible and refill with new fluid.

In the second to last picture in that DIY, what is the point of connecting a hose to the reservoir inlet?

Probably to prevent fluid from coming out of the opening when you pour new fluid in the reservoir.

Maybe, but I figure you would re-attach the original hose before re-filling the reservoir.

Yes, defnitely. After you flush everything, you would take the blocked off hose off and put the inlet hose back.

And from left field - newbie

Newbie here with a 2000 4cyl :
Link here to 4Runner forum has a good flush / bleeding write up. NOTE the 2nd / additional bleed turning steering lock-to-lock with the wheels on the ground. He does'nt explain why but IMPORTANT - it is to work the pump harder - to completly bleed.

I suck out my brake fluid and power steering fluid with a turkey baster every so often then refill. (Thx toyo) It is easy to do and good enough unless it is really dirty. I dont want to be unscrewing hoses etc. that dont need it, you are just making more trouble and work for yourself - i have learned this the hard way.

The turkey baster method works surprising well! My dark PS fluid is now staying clear and red.
