O2 Sensor

I got an error code of po135 - O2 sensor, bank 1 sensor 1, on my 1998 V6XLE, and I'm trying to figure out which sensor it is before I buy one and install it. I've tried to talk to the local Toyota dealers, but they won't let a tech talk to the public. The Chiltons I have, doesn't show the locations very well at all. Any help will be appreciated. Thanx

sorry, but this maybe a wild guess, there should be atleast 4 O2 sensor since its a V6 and a 98 model. 2 on the both side of the header, one b4 the cat and one after the cat. sorry :o this is how it is on the maxima.....

either way, replace all O2 sensor! they don't just reduce emission, they provide lotta HP at the end

O2 sensor

Now I'm really confused. I got 1 dealer tech and 1 parts rep that says it's on the back manifold (access from under the engine), 1 dealer that wouldn't talk to me, i reply and 1 parts rep that says it's the one right in the front (easy access), and someone that says replace all 4 sensors (Chiltons and dealer say there are only 3 sensors)...at $130.00 ea, I don't want to replace all of them. Thanks everyone. I think I'll wait until I get 10 replies, then go with the majority, or just have the Toyota people do it.

sorry what was i thinking i had the same problem on my 92 V6. it said main sensor which on the new obd2 system is the rear sensor.

also on any new vehicle 95-03 and some 94's imports
and 96-03 domestics with the obd2 system this is how it goes

sensor 1 is the sensor farthest upstream
sensor 2 is the downstream sensor
although some vehicles sensor 2 is the one after the cat

sorry to confuse u i didnt read your problem thouroly.
heres another thing get the one from your toyota dealership it has a special flange design that no aftermarket sensor has. As far as replacing all o2 sensors it really depends if there are only two sensors one on each manifold and one after the cat replace both manifold ones it will get rid of you dtc and improve your gas mileage more than if you only replaced the one. The back sensor is a total bitch not to get out but to unhook from the plug. See the good thing about toyotas that i mentioned before about the flange design it is almost impossible to have the sensor be frozen in the manifold.

Hi stuartcr
So did you ever figure out which sensor it was?

I'm in a similar boat. '98 Camry XLE V6. 2 trouble codes:
P1133
P1135
The 1135 is the same code as your 0135 (the first digit being 0 or 1 just specifies weather it's vehicle specific from what I understand).

Anyway, I'd sure be interested in what you found out. Or anyone elses opinion for that matter.

Thanks guys!

Wow-what a confusing thread! Search the forum for: Code p0135---it'll confirm your o2 sensor location.

o2 sensor

same thing - o2 sensor came up on the code - wouldn't pass emission test here in wa state. took it to a certified mechanic (what a rip-off!!!) and had to pay out over $300.00. mine is a '98 v6 Camry.
