id advise against sony xplod subs, and so would Phi... for around the same price if you look around you can get some decent pioneers...

but the final choice is up to you.

No prob Nik, anytime

I don't have any personal experience with Xplodes (Silver Streak has; http://www.tt-cc.com/forum/viewtopic.php?topic=171&forum=1&12 ) but I think the consensus is, stay away from Xplode! Qoute from audio dealer with sarcasim

"Why else would they name a product Xplode?"

Check out other brands. If at all possible, ask to hear the subs in your car.

HMMMMMM that sukks but still i wanna hear the top of the line ones cuz the are totally different then those cheap ass red ones!

n e ways Phi i am proud to report that i got that fukker of a door off yesterday! Ya i had a beer right after to celebrate! lol

I went out and bought some nice sony x-plod 6 1/2! I KNOW I KNOW!!! but believe me they have nice sound. I guess sony just fukked up on their woofers. Cuz the 6x9 are awesome!

So i put one in one the passenger side and put the door back together. Turned on the car and listened up. They we great! TILL i turned the volume up past 16 on my pioneer deck! FUKK! i got this fukked up noise from the speaker.

at first i thought it was just loose but i went and hooked up the other speaker to my sterio in my room only to turn the volume past 30 and get the same fukken noise!

i examned the speaker to realize that the foam around the speaker was being pushed to the limit which was causing the terrible noise! WHAT IS THAT CALLED is that distortion???? and how can i get rid of that noise? should i amp the fukkers of what? Phi my man lemme know

Whoa i just realized how long this note is!!!!! ouch

I had the Xplod subs and honestly, they kinda sucked. The bass wasn't too clear and it couldn't handle a wide enough frequency range. Well, I was only giving 75 watts per sub but still....

Sooo...you bought both the 6.5 and 6x9? Hmmm, why the distortion? Your head unit can't push the speakers hard enough. Your Pioneer head unit probably only gives out 22x4 watts RMS and of course that's enough to push your speakers fine...but not enough at higher volumes. Get a 4 channel amp or a 2 channel amp stable at 2 ohm and I'm sure your system will be able to play at higher volumes with way less distortion.

Oh, you shouldn't hook up car speakers to your home amplifier...you'll screw up the amp. I'm almost positive that your speakers are 4 ohms and usually home amplifiers are rated at 8 ohm. They gotta match or else...plus it may not sound right.

If you are willing to shell out the money for mids (6.5&quot and tweeters (1&quot, get MB Quart PSC series... the top of the line one is $1500 CDN and you will NOT be disappointed. They also come with their own crossovers... excellent ones. That is what I got - PSC216... professional series line.

Although I went to ebay and bought it from an importer directly from Germany brand new for $268 US.

There is also a PSC316 which is impossible to find and I'm sure will cost more than the rest of your system.

lol, I thought you said "im goin to buy some nice 6.5s tomorrow nice expensive ones! lol" so I recommended the MB Quart.

If you are only looking to spend $200, I've heard JL component speakers in a store and they sounded pretty good. But I think it was because of a good deck and amp. I don't think you can get much better than the Xplods for only $200.

The top of the line sony's are labeled mobile es. I have there head unit with the built in dsp unit (awesome stuff) and used to have the 6.5" components and 6x9. Those were ight. The sony mobile es subs.. they were less then ight. I blew 2 12" subs. Man, they were great a first, but after a while, that funky smell comes into play once you blow a set. My installer burnt his hand on the back of the sub when we were taking them out and switching for jl w3. I heard a big differnce from the sony and the jl. At the same volume, the w3 were more efficenet.. as in louder and cleaner.
