You need a resonent backpresure for added HP and a constant increase. So get a custum resontaor for you car and you will see it will be louder and have a substancial Hp gain in the lower Rpm's caused by a neede back presure. If your system is just a straight pipe you risk loosing alot of low end power.I seen car when i was racing that had 4+ foot resonators that gave them a much neede boost especialy in turbo aplications.Anyways check it out and get back to me on it.

Hmm I will definetly look into that. But from what my understanding was, the resonator was not really even necessary.
Besides, isn't resonator part of down-pipe? I'm upgrading cat/catback along with muffler and tip. All behind the resonator.

Okay maybe when I looked under my car when I was doing my struts I didn't notice the resonator on the cat-back at all. Maybe I missed it. On some cars it is part of the downpipe. I thought ours was the same. I will have to check the manual or something.
As far as sounding like a Civic, define "sound like a Civic" means. A Civic sounds the way it does because of the super wide pipes.

The cat is in the immediate foreground. Then you see the flanges. When referring to cat-back, it means everything from that flange onwards. You see the stock resonator further down.

The bigger the resonator the deeper the sound not like a sh**vic.I know cause on my integra my resonator was real huge cause i neede some back presure for my Turbo. But a resonator does add some low end power and i know what im talking about i got some proof.
Made sense to me... but tell me what you guys think.

According to what he said, 250-350HP can use 3" - 3.5"
So I figure that our V6 being close to 200HP cna use 2.75" and 4cyl being close to 150HP can use 2.5" without loss of low end torque and at a huge top end gain.

Sounded good to me... here is what im probably gonna do for my exhaust, although i am gonna miss some of that beautiful low-end torque my V6 has:
- 2.5" mandrel bent piping, as opposed to the 2.25" stock.
- apex'i N1 muffler for its sound (plus ill buy the silencer for those times when it might piss me off)
- still looking for headers for my V6.
Ive been looking at the Injen intake that Ben was talking about and it looks as if it will fit the Gen3 V6's aswell, good thing.
As for the article, it cleared some things up ive been thinking about like oversized piping and exhaust temp. thanks for the link!
