Japan or US model ? How do I know ?

Hi everybody, newbie here. Recently my 99 4 cyl 2.2L camry sometime will not start (crank) or will start after a few try. I replace the battery thinking its bad because it's 8 years old. Samething, will sometime start (crank) after a few try I think the starter is almost gone. When I try to go online to shop for starter, I was ask if my camry is a Japan or US model. Q1 How do I find out if it's JPN or US. Q2 Does any know where I can get a good deal for a starter.

Thankyou

Look at the VIN number of the car. It's located on the driver's side of the dashboard just behind the windshield, when viewed form outside the car. You can also check your insurance card. That should have the VIN number of you car listed on it.

Japaneese built Camrys start with the leter "J", usually JT......
American built Camrys start with the number "4", usually 4T......

No kidding? All of the US-built Camrys I've seen at work (scrap yard) have been "1T" and Canada-built Yotas are "2T". Anyone else seen anything different? I thought there was consistency!

The ones I have noticed start with a 4. My generation 3, made in Japan, starts with a J. My generation 4, made in Kentucky, started with a 4. My new 07 (generation 6), also made in Kentucky, also starts with a 4. Maybe someone with a generation 3, made in the US, could pipe in here and let us know what their VIN starts with. Maybe we can just say that US built Camrys start with a number and Japaneese built Camrys start with a "J".

3rd Generation

My Gen 3.5 is a USA-built model and the VIN starts with 4.
