[guru's only] OD causes loss of power

please only answer if you know wtf youre on about, the local mechanic had nfi, and also the toyota dealer doesnt know (no codes to pull and not enough road to test run)

whenever OD os off, i loose a lot of power, simple as that. doesnt matter what gear im in, but if OD is off, theres a lot less power then if the button is on. so clearly, theres something else other then just overdriving 3rd gear for extra economy going on. in 3rd the loss is so great that the rpms will actually drop slightly or just stop climbing at all. 0-60 is about 1.5-2 seconds slower with OD off.

g0t wtf?

OD switched off, even when not in 3rd results in major power loss/rpm drop.

Err..am i a guru? LOL

Ramp the engine i Neutral with the diag connector NOT shorted and a timing light connected. Follow the ignition advance with the OD button on and off and see what it comes up with.

This also could be something internal with the transmission. A slipping clutchpack inside that has something to do with the OD system. Perhpas the converter lockup mechanism?

Loss power as in how, the engine looses power. To much gearing for the engine (lugging)? You apply power with the O/D off does the tach RPM increase but the car feels like it is not moving any faster?

tach drops (you can hear the engine drop rpm too) or it just stops climbing altogether. theres no surging or roughness. its as if you wouldve let the gas off lightly for a bit then didnt fully floor it back again, or just stopped accelerating.
