if you want performance ~!!

this is the general stuff for y'all who asks what u can do to ur cars, to get started.
as u start, u will learn more and then u will decide where you want to go with ur car. because then u will know what u and ur wallet is capable of and wants.

The most basic stuff…
-air fiter on stock intake (remove stock air filter box)

If you want to have some fun with your camry but your funds are limited (not serious about performance)
-short ram intake or cold air intake
-front strut bar
-basic weight reduction
-all the visual crap

If you want good performance and is willing to spend money on your camry
-coilovers or
-high performance struts, lowering springs (If need replacing: strut mounts, strut boots, antiroll bar links)
-upgraded rear anti roll bar
-manual swap
-weight reduction (cf hood)
-upgraded headers
-high flow cat
-bigger diameter piping (diameter depends on ur engine)
-muffler and resonator (no fart cans)
-lightweight/underdrive pulley (not the best thing for ur engine)(if underdrive, get matching overdrive alternator and pump)
-low hp dinitrogen monoxide

If you are serious about your camry being all out or a sleeper and u want to own stock evos with ur camry then…(of course if ur serious about ur camry.. u don't mind the money u spend...) (keep in mind that with this amount of money, u can make a better car ie. evo MUCH better than u can if u spend it on the camry)
-everything above
-v6 swap (buy a mz camry. or 3s-gte needs custom. So does the vz v6 engines) then rebuild engine (stronger internals)
-any other engine stuff u want to do (porting, etc)
-forced induction (and everything else that goes with it)
-upgraded fuel pump, fuel rails
-upgraded clutch
-tuned cams
-high shot dinitrogen monoxide

guys please add to the list. copy and paste in reply. (i know you guys can add so much more to this list)
beause so many people are asking about this.

this is all general knowledge anyway.

The most basic stuff…
$100-1000

If you want good performance and is willing to spend money on your camry
$2000-5000

If you are serious about your camry being all out or a sleeper and u want to own stock evos with ur camry then…
$10,000+

Don't you think this is a bit broad?

And whats wrong with "fart cans"? Matter of opinion and application id say...

yeah its broad. its intended for starters on cars. because if you know a lot about cars, u wouldn't be asking how to get more power in ur car. u'd be researching the engines urself and ask about the mount points, etc. (cause u know a lot about cars but not really much about the camry)

but yeah my list was bias =P nothing relli wrong with fart cans

No see, what we need are some guides that leave no question unanswered, they wouldn't be hard to make and then we could stick one link at the top of each forum, and have multiple links inside that one post. noobs like shit like that.

For instance for 2.2 Camry performance click here

and under that link something like

First off you need to understand you are working with a 2.2 liter 4 cyl engine with poor cams (performance wise) and simple bolt on mods will not net any serious gains. The Camry is also a heavy car making simple bolt-ons even more pointless.

If you are looking for a sportier car start with your suspension and dont even worry about anything like an intake or any exahust work. Suspension usually runs 800-2000 from low end (but good quality) to very high end (like racing coilovers)

Once finished, if you want to build the engine N/A you need to decide which way to go with your transmission. If it is auto consider shelling out $350 for an upgraded torque converter and another $600 or around there for an install, this will put you almost even with the 5 speed 2.2 Camrys.

Or consider a 5 speed swap if you can put up with the car being down for a little while, the swap is not THAT hard if you have access to facilities or friends with good automotive experience.

Once you have decided which way to go with the transmission, the next thing that the 5sfe lacks is a good cam. Head on over to www.webcamshafts.com and give them a call to ask about different cam options they can make for you. The stock cams are built for low end and fuel economy, and really loose power up top. A good set will REALLY open the engine up top end.

Only once you have cams should you look into a header back exhaust system, you will have to find a header (NOT HEADERS) but they pop up from time to time.

After the exhaust either aftermarket intake ( cold air short ram it doesnt matter much)

And finally you need to tune it in! Look into a greddy e-manage with optional harnesses and then post up if you need help installing, I've done two with little prior wiring diagram experience, they arent that hard if you take your time.

If you are not comfortable installing cams, or doing any kind of electrical work I suggest you get out of the modding mindset and start learning about how car systems work and why I listed these mods in this particular order. Then you will realize that even with all these mods you wont be at 200 wheel horsepower. It will be quick, responsive and reliable once tuned, but not fast.

I can write these up all day, the reason the search button doesnt work well is people dont understand what to search for. If someone is coming here after owning a car that there are other performance communities for (IE the Grand Prix boards, the F-body boards, the mustang boards) they are most likely familiar with how their cars work, and they know the basic mods to get started.

But if you are like me and started out with your Dad's 93 Camry v6 at age 17, well I had no idea what did what, and barely knew how to take an intake apart or exactly how complicated putting a turbocharger on an engine was. Thats why we need experienced folks here to help start people out.

yeah. i think this forum needs a guide to performance for noobs. u have a pretty good writeup there.

it is true that when u start out, u don't know what to search for, and some people do not have much connections to obtain the knowledge. of course theres wiki and many other websites but.. not everyone knows how to use those either.. -.-

the reason i kinda wanna do this because its kinda hard answerin people when their question is "how do i make more power". if we had something they can get the basics off, then they can make some decisions and then ask something we can actually help them with

maybe we can gather up some good sites that provide basic information for those who want to spend a lil bit of money on their camry and then we can tell them what they can do after they read up on the basics. and what benefits they get from doing it. i mean we all started somewhere right ?

but i can't think of a good structure to do it..

I can, we keep it simple, and advertise it. One link to a stick that says click HERE for Camry PERFORMANCE.

Inside have links to the two different models, the 4 cyl and the v6.

Tell the person they need to understand the fundamental directions they can take their car. Then give them an idea of how much it costs with good examples from the boards here (with owners permission)

Go over what mods do what, cover in detail what they can expect to see from each mod, like what I wrote up above.

I'm willing to write for this no prob, I have worked on a lot of cars and have a lot of experience with everything from basic bolt-ons all the way to turbo setups. I'm pretty familiar with this+this will = this

Also the stickies need to be locked with no extra posts in them, the 5sfe turbo thread is how many pages?
