No see, what we need are some guides that leave no question unanswered, they wouldn't be hard to make and then we could stick one link at the top of each forum, and have multiple links inside that one post. noobs like shit like that.
For instance for 2.2 Camry performance click here
and under that link something like
First off you need to understand you are working with a 2.2 liter 4 cyl engine with poor cams (performance wise) and simple bolt on mods will not net any serious gains. The Camry is also a heavy car making simple bolt-ons even more pointless.
If you are looking for a sportier car start with your suspension and dont even worry about anything like an intake or any exahust work. Suspension usually runs 800-2000 from low end (but good quality) to very high end (like racing coilovers)
Once finished, if you want to build the engine N/A you need to decide which way to go with your transmission. If it is auto consider shelling out $350 for an upgraded torque converter and another $600 or around there for an install, this will put you almost even with the 5 speed 2.2 Camrys.
Or consider a 5 speed swap if you can put up with the car being down for a little while, the swap is not THAT hard if you have access to facilities or friends with good automotive experience.
Once you have decided which way to go with the transmission, the next thing that the 5sfe lacks is a good cam. Head on over to
www.webcamshafts.com and give them a call to ask about different cam options they can make for you. The stock cams are built for low end and fuel economy, and really loose power up top. A good set will REALLY open the engine up top end.
Only once you have cams should you look into a header back exhaust system, you will have to find a header (NOT HEADERS) but they pop up from time to time.
After the exhaust either aftermarket intake ( cold air short ram it doesnt matter much)
And finally you need to tune it in! Look into a greddy e-manage with optional harnesses and then post up if you need help installing, I've done two with little prior wiring diagram experience, they arent that hard if you take your time.
If you are not comfortable installing cams, or doing any kind of electrical work I suggest you get out of the modding mindset and start learning about how car systems work and why I listed these mods in this particular order. Then you will realize that even with all these mods you wont be at 200 wheel horsepower. It will be quick, responsive and reliable once tuned, but not fast.
I can write these up all day, the reason the search button doesnt work well is people dont understand what to search for. If someone is coming here after owning a car that there are other performance communities for (IE the Grand Prix boards, the F-body boards, the mustang boards) they are most likely familiar with how their cars work, and they know the basic mods to get started.
But if you are like me and started out with your Dad's 93 Camry v6 at age 17, well I had no idea what did what, and barely knew how to take an intake apart or exactly how complicated putting a turbocharger on an engine was. Thats why we need experienced folks here to help start people out.
