Yup i always turn one down as far as it will go to find the puddles and the other up as high as it will go to assist the airport in finding the planes.
Naw correct adjustment is to have them level or just under level. You can see the cutoff if you park along a wall with the wall to your left. Then stand in front of one headligt then the other to get the up/down right. I then park about 30 M perpendicualr to the wall ans turn on the highbeams to adjust the lights left to right.
I never have read any manuals on if this is correctly but I have been using halogen lights since about 1981 and I seem to get good vision and no one flashes me on the highway so it can't be that far off.
