I need to run a stronger or high wattage alternator ... Because mine blew out and need to be replace. I dont know much about this type of mod so can anyone out there with a system help me out...
Hey, goto the stinger audio website... they make alternators... just email them and tell them how many amps you want
stock alts make 80 amps... the car itself probably uses 50ish
im sure you know, amps * volts = watts
so if you're putting in a sound system, plan accordingly
i think there are some other companies that make alternators for camrys or universal ones or something? maybe ask around at caraudio.com
let me know what the prices are for how many amps... i could use a stronger alternator myself but i really don't wanna pay much since I don't plan to keep this car too long and i also dont have much money to spend
i would look for something around 200 amps unless you got a hardcore competition system

justin: pm me up or call me... i got a guy near my work and he's a distributor for phoenix gold competition alternators... kinda pricey though about 1000CAD but its all worth it.. i've seen his work.. and it is awesome... never knew alternators werent as good as it should be in stock form w/ our radios and subs crankin up... its just useless...
this is how to figure out how much you power you need. add up how much your system need. lets say it about 1000 watts total for your sound system. take that number and divide it with the volt on your charging system. so 1000/14= so thats about 71.5 amp. your current alternator is only good for about 80amp but half of that is needed to run the car's electricals. your setup will only require 71.5amp when you hit that very long bass. but with the help of a upgraded battery or a simple cap you should be fine. there are many HO alternator like stinger and ohio generator but there usually about 200amp and above. you really don't want that much and custom bracket for them is a pain in the ass to. your other option will be to get your alternator rewound. what they do is take apart your alternator and use more and smaller strans to give you about 40amp more with your original housing. it cost somewhere about $50-100USD for the rewound job.

see all I have for a system is a Apline head unit and Kenwood 6x9 which most likely I'll change for some eclipse 6x9 ... I dont plan on running any competition speakers. I need the better alternator for all the meter, gauges, new fuel pumps, water pump for the intercooler, etc I'll be running...
if thats the case you should just get your alternator rewound. all the other alternator is just a overkill. but beware some rewound alternator have a rough idle. these are usually from shop that don't know what there doing.

Hmm... I'm having some problems with my gauges and instrument panel dimming so I should look into getting my alternator rewound. I could cough up $50 or a little more, but not $100. I guess I ought to take my car to a dealer and have them check it out? Would they know what the problem is?

stealth : for u .. just go get a cap instead of rewounding ur alternator...
wraith: even though a rewound alternator is cheap and is good enough... it wont run u as good as a better higher output alternator... yes it cost more... but like u told me last time.. if u gonna do it.. might as well do it the right way ... and that way u give urself more room for other future upgrades without anything holding you back...
