was my engine overheating?

yesterday my dad and i were takign two of my friends sailing, and we were drivng on the highway when i noticed that there was this loud whooshing sound coming from the engine bay every time my dad pressed the gas. i had a feeling that the radiator fan was sorta set to spin up everytime the gas was pressed because it was REALLYREALLY hot outside yesterday. but, being idiots, we forgot to check if it was the radiator fan when we got there, but then when a cold front came in while we were out sailing and it cooled down significantly, we got back in the car and there was no more whooshing sound. was it the radiator fan spinning up?

I highly doubt at the speed that you're doing on the highway, it'll turn on the radiator fan.

It doesn't even spin that fast to begin with, not to mention there's no "whooshing sound" especially when the engine+wind noise will probably be louder than your rad fan on the highway.

really? i can always hear loud and clear when the radiator fan turns on.

hmm... i wonder what it was then... at least it isn't happening anymore though
