Question A Question about DIY's

Of course, everyone wants the hottest and fastest and, to some, the LOUDEST, cars, and when it all comes down to it, I think it's safe to say that you need money to have a hot, fast, and obnoxiously loud car. Sure, you can look for the best deals and the greatest hook-ups in the world, but one of the most common ways to save money on a mod would be to do it yourself. Now, I'm not really looking for counter-statements from people trying to tell me other ways of making a hot, fast, and loud car. So, please keep those thoughts on "your" side of the computer screen. Now for my question.

What are some recommendations to the type of mods that would be okay to DIY? I mean, given that most people aren't full-time mechanics and they have only a general understanding of how cars work, I just want to know what modifications are safe for the common driver to do to their car and what mods are best left for the professionals?

I follow the general rule that if it has anything to do with engines and whatnot, I'll leave that to a professional, just to skip the risk of really focking up my car. With the whole electrical thing, my brother is pretty advanced in that field so I wouldn't mind jumping into any of that, but if I didn't have my brother, I would also leave that to the professionals. Anything on the interior side of the car is my specialty, only because I tend to be somewhat of a perfectionist, so when it comes to the "look" of the interior, I do a fine job with the details of it. In any case, I'm just looking for anyone's general advice on what to do and what not to do to their car. Thanks.

Best advice that most of us can give you is to read the instructions, or what is involved in the mod, be it adding an intake or an engine swap. If you can visualize it or feel comfortable after reading and researching, then go for it.

One word of advice though, have a spare ride in the event you do F-up.

Here's one thing you should NOT do unless you are fully confident in what you are doing and know that you won't mess it up-drilling holes in anything in your car. This is virtually a no-brainer, but I learned the hard way. Cuz once you start with the drill, there's no going back or any second chances.

Losing your lunch from the airplane's cuisine, but not having a paper bag-Priceless
For everything else, there's paper bags!
