Brake lines - advice needed

On a '00 LE 4 cyl.

I am about to do some brake work that requires me to detach the flex house in the rear from where it connects to the metal brake line. The metal brake line has a fitting on its end that screws in the flex line's connector.

2 questions:
(1) what's the torque?
(2) does this fitting rotate around the metal pipe, much like the ones on bathroom toilet flusher houses? What I mean is, can I have the flex line's fitting stay in place while I tighten the fitting on the metal line or should I go the other way - have the metal line's fitting stay in place, while I rotate and screw-in the flex-line's fitting?

I'm pretty sure it must rotate, because it is similar to the ones at the brake proportioning valve, where it will not be possible to install if it didn't rotate...

I'm about to swap in a set of v6 disk brakes in place of my drums and got everything ready (I hope); will post the results and pics soon.

Thanks!

I don't think there is a specific amount of torque, seeing that you can't get a socket onto the fitting.

So all I can say is tighten it till its snug. If you have flare nut wrenches use them on the brake line fittings, if not regular open end wrenches will work.

Yes it does.

Good luck & have fun.

Re: Re: Brake lines - advice needed

Thanks. I got a flare wrench, so hopefully I won't strip the corners. Plus, the car is in good condition without too much rust, so it should come off easy with some luck.

I'm not going to change the proportioning valve to the v6 one for now. It looks like a pain to get any tools to it b/w the engine and the firewal. But since I got it for free from the junk yard I might give it a try some day if I feel like the brakes in the rear need some 'boost' after the swap.
