Old Swab

I have an '03 Camry LXE with 40K on it. This past winter every time the steering wheel is turned there is a squeeking sound that appears to come from where the steering column passes through the dash. The sound only comes as the wheel is turned and sounds as if something needs lubrication. Now that the weather has warmed up the squeek has gotten louder. Anyone else had this problem? Know of a simple fix? Thanks.

I've heard this is a fairy common issue with the camrys, maybe even a tsb for it. What I would suggest is to lubricate it with white lithium grease, you should be able to get a spray can at most parts store.

Hey old swab, i'd try what he said. Go to town with a can of silicone spray on that rubber thing it goes through in the firewall.
If that doesnt do the trick here are some other problem areas to look at. The steering column has a u joint thing on it and also a bearing, either one of these could be making the noise, here are some pictures from the Toyota manuals and the link for the pages if you are going to to try to fix it by yourself.
