Hey guys, I had three people (myself included) in my car and about 80 lbs of additional stuff in my Gen4 at first. I noticed that my rear tires were rubbing with every single bump in the road. I went ahead and take a brief look at the rear, and found that the round thing at the base of the spring/strut assembly awfully close to the tire. Is that normal?
I know my struts are going bad since I'm at 79K mi., but I just wanted to know if changing the struts will fix that problem. Thanks.

Are you talking about the spring perch? If so, it doesn't move independantly of the tire, its attached. If you go over a bump the perch moves at the same speed/rate/amount as the tire, they would never make contact.
hmmm, then its not sagging that much, cuz my 92 camry, i had 4 ppl plus as much crap as you could fit in there and i had -1 inch gap and i wasn't hititng anything
but when a coil broke then i hit the wheel well a bunch
oh, and there is no way that thing that you're talking about could hit the tire, its just the support for the spring, its the top end that does all the travelling
do you have aftermarket wheels on your car? what is the size and offset of your rims? what size tire are you running on them? wrong sizing can lead to rubbing.

This will fix it if you have the correct rim/tire combo - my TRD/Tokico setup is much more resilient to the car bottoming-out compared to the stock. It's a great ride IMO.
About the rubbing, the thing that you show on your picture does not move relative to the tire/wheel. Your tires rub the fender most likely. If they are too wide or the wheels have incorrect offset this might happen.
With stock tires/rims even at full compression you should not have rubbing.
