9005 Conversion Question

Went to start up my car tonite and both headlights died immediately. I've got power to everything else, and when I switch the headlights to on I can hear a click, so it makes me believe that they are getting power, and both just burnt out at the same time. I didn't pull them out to check them yet cause it's the middle of the night at the moment, but I will tomorrow. So now I'm considering doing the 9005 conversion with Silverstars. My question when doing the conversion, how do you protect the bulb itself? If you're not supposed to touch it during installation, I would assume you shouldn't touch it while doing work on it, so how would I do that? Or should I just not worry about it and then clean it off before installing it? If thats the case, what would I clean it with?
