4th Gen Camry Question

My grandpa has a CE and his brother in law just got the nicer one with the V6 and all. He's complaining about how his sound system isn't as good as his brother in law's so he wants me to make it just as good. I'd do aftermarket but I'm too lazy and don't want to spend too much of his money on parts. Looking of the V6 I noticed the only difference was the Tweeters on the doors. Does anyone know where those tweets wire to on the stock headunit and also if I can go buy them at the local Toyota parts department?

with the money youll spend on buying the tweeters and the pods from the factory you would have been able to get some really nice 6 1/2" aftermarket coaxials. And even with a set of tweeters you're still going to be getting sound out of the crappy paper dome speakers. My advise if youre on a budget would be to get some nice coaxials for the door and a cd player. Good companies are pioneer, clarion, alpine, eclipse, kenwood. You can get a decent cd player from anywhere from 100$ usd to 200$ usd. Speakers can run anywhere from 50$ to 200$. my system

thanks but gramps has his heart set on the factory stuff. I've done quite a bit of stereo work myself but only on aftermarket headunits with RCA pre-outs. What I'm trying to find out is how to wire in tweets to the factory headunit. I'll probably by aftermarket tweets but I need to get my hands on the factory tweet mount on the doors.

Mmm. See if you can convince him otherwise. Factory stuff is super expensive. Don't know about the speakers, but when my stock head unit got smashed by thieves, I called the dealership to find replacement cost and was told around $800 as I recall. Granted, it's a Fujitsu Ten unit (makes Eclipse), but that seems a little excessive for what you get. Aftermarket is definitely the way to go.

But if you're looking for just wiring info, you could go to a dealership and ask for a photcopy of the appropriate page in the shop manual. Or just talk to one of the guys at the dealer shop. The mechanics I've spoken to around here are pretty nice, it's just often the sales people that want to dick you over.
