’98 LE V6 dead.

CEL came on during the drive into work this morning. Car ran/drove fine. Didn’t notice anything but the CEL. Got to work, shut it off and tried to restart it. Cranks fine but will not run. I’m waiting for daylight to check under the hood. Don’t have an OBD II scan tool. Never used one but hopefully it will get me in the ballpark.

Any other ideas?

just get that code scanned and post back will be the easiest thing for us to help you with, otherwise can you tell if its getting spark or fuel?

I haven't looked at it yet but the odd thing is that it ran fine before I shut it down.

Buying a Scanner for $40 Probably Worthwhile

Well hopefully the CEL isnt crying wolf for once, odds are the code would tell you what the problem is. Maybe a dead sensor or something, who knows without a scanner?

Ive seen the CEL come on too many times on too many cars ive owned and so finally i spent $30 at harbor freight for a basic bare-bones scanner. Its already paid for itself one time after i cleaned the TBI and the check engine came on, the little scanner i have flashes the codes, if any, 3 X 3 times then clears the code automatically. Saved a visit to a mechanic. So i recommend everybody buy their own scanner, they are cheap nowadays.

CEL could mean a major/minor problem or just be a one time event. Try AutoZone to read the codes for free.

By the way Neo, what did the problem turn out to be after all?
