I am thinking on getting nitrous for my 1996 i4 (5sfe) camry. It has 172,000 miles so i think a 55 shot would be alot safer than a 75.
Has anyone had any experience with nitrous on this engine (was also used in n/a mr2's, and celica's) and if they ever encountered any damages using it?
I think a 75 or 100 shot would blow out the motor real quick but shouldnt a 55 shot be fine?
i think there was someone on this forum that put nos on the same setup you have with the same miles.just to see if it was stronge enogh thay went thru a full bottal in on night.worked fine.good luck
all the power to ya!!! go get 'em!!! Yukio from TeamSC3 is running NOS on his 5sfe, and he is an all show car. from what i hear he loves the nitrous because he doesnt want to do much with his engine, but its a good kick when you need it.
the engine should be fine with a 50 shot as long as its in good condition to start off with. i mean if you have bad compression now then dont bother until you get it fixed. i thinbk you might want to retard the timing for the 50 shot just to be safe. the best and safest way to see how your car runs on the nitrous id to take it to a dyno. you can see how your air/fuel ratios are and if you can get away with not retarding the timing. you'll also see what your puttin to the ground. you figure 4-500 for the kit. free installation if you do it. and maybe another 50-100 bucked to get it dynoed so make sure the conditions are safe is pretty cheap for some good power gains.
Well...first off before you add nitrous, you will definately want to perform a leak compression test especially with the number of miles you have on your engine. Remember that the slightest problem could cause a disasterous result in the end. A recommended upgrade to do before you add nitrous is your ignition system. If you plan on adding nitrous always go for NON-PLATINUM plugs, anything else such as platinum plugs will cause the plugs to blow when nitrous is combusted. A set of upgraded ignition wires is a good investment while your at it. Once your set there your ready to install the nitrous system or kit. Remember that additional fuel needed to combust with the nitrous is a must, no matter what nitrous system or kit you use. I forgot the ratio of fuel to nitrous but i believe it was a 3:1 ratio but it should be in the manual with the nitrous kit your getting. Most kits do come with some sort of device that offers additional fuel such as a fuel solenoid, fuel regulator and ect. A good investment in this stage would be a higher flowing fuel pump and regulator (if not supplied). Retarding the timing to your specification is recommened as well. Now for the 1MZ-FE a set of connecting rods would be an ideal investment since the stock ones are so thin but im not to sure about the size of the rods on the 5S-FE. If i were you i would not recommend you to run no more than a 50-shot flare just due to the miles you have on your engine with all that wear and tear internally that its been through. But yes you can run nitrous safely if the right ingredients are supplied and blended together. Good Luck!
Is there any diffrence in how it will effect my engine for a dry shot or wet shot. I don't really think one would put wear on the engine than the other right?
I have ran a 35 50 and 75 on the miles I have an NX fogger kit and I have now ran 2 1/2 bottles its fun but i would recomend no more than a 35 shot for a long period of time.
