Talking My old rotors and new Brembos *5 pics*

I changed all my rotors a few weeks ago and put on some new Brembo blanks and I thought I would show them off...pathetic yes I know. I painted the hub parts first with high temp aluminum paint so that they don't rust.

The first two pics are of my original 12 year front rotor, it was rusted on. I got those two screws to remove it, but all it did was break the front hub off! After using tons of WD40, rust remover, a hammer and some brute strength, I finally got it off. Took me 3.5 hours to change all four rotors and shiny up my wheels. A couple of guys were checking out my wheels today and last week, and finally, they were under 50!

Ekam, this is what I was talking about before....

How the heck do you break a rotor like that!?!?!

Nice rotors SilverStreak. I painted mine with hi-temp enamel and it didn't last a single winter before they rusted. Those that intend to buy new rotors, I highly recommend spending the extra bucks ($5/rotor) and getting them cad. coated.

Rayray: They were like $55 each for the rears and about $75 for the fronts. Yup, same size as stock.

Phi: On my third pic down, you'll see two holes...those are for bolts. Basically, if the rotor is really stuck, you can screw in some bolts and technically, it should pop out the rotors by threading it out. However, my front rotor was so badly rusted that instead of the rotor coming off, the whole front hub part came off as you can see in the first pic. Once I saw it give a bit, I just decided to break it off since they were screwed anyway. I got so frustrated at one point that I took out a 4 foot crowbar and started bashing it off...still didn't work!

I hope my rotors still look like this after the winter. I did put on like 5 coats of paint.

Just machined once at 80,000km. I took them off at !49,000km. I'm on my third set of pad including original ones and the 2nd set weren't even that worn out.

The car was babied before 1999 by my uncle before I acquired it.

you can try lightly sanding off the rust and painting them with some sort of high temperature paint avail at most auto parts stores. However, as I mentioned above, the paint didn't last the winter on mine. They looked nice throughout the summer though.
